Incognito (4:23) - ummm waka ummm aak chuk a woh woh - erm yes. Quite a basic track, but very single-worthy, hence I guess why it's getting the first single release. Ruth-Ann's on the french vocals for this one, some very nice chord synths and sfx. Voyageur encompasses a very groovy bass line, and simple repetitive (yet effective) drum rhythm. Nicely mixing in to the next track - Voyageur (4:36) (check out the video to this track on - quite raunchy!). the bears get played around with a bit, and some 'war of the world' style (not sample) sequenced sound is mixed with some nice piano to create a very chilled mood. Starting with 'From East to West' (4:11), you'd be forgiven for thinking this was going to be yet another standard Enigma album, but then kicks in some 4/4 drums and we're off on Cretu's journey. Gone are the trademark Pan Pipe flutes, Gregorian Monk chants, or Ethnic samples, in come through the door a totally different direction - chilled (and sometimes trancy) beats, sequences and leads, mixed with Ruth-Ann's haunting vocals and the 'classic' singing 'talents' of Michael Cretu. to Michael Cretu's last proper album, The Screen Behind the Mirror, I can honestly say, after taking time out to listen to Enigma's new album - Voyageur - a fair few times, Voyageur is in respect to Michael Cretu, what 'Metamorphoses' was to Jean Michel Jarre and what Tr3s Lunas was to Mike Oldfield - a new direction in music composition for his project. Having lived with Enigma's music for the past 13 years, through MCMXC a.D. Ignoring the fact that I'm a fan of Jean Michel Jarre, i'm also a fan of many other music and artists out there too, with 2nd place in my top 5 going to Enigma in the "must buy CD" stakes. It may be more contemporary and less new age-ish than before, but only in a good way. I have now listened to the new Enigma album and if you liked the other ones, get this one too. Both vocalists also contributed on Enigma's previous album. The credits show that the songs are all written by Michael Cretu, with Jens Gad taking part in three of the songs.ĭavid Fairstein, who has contributed with lyrics on all previous albums, is not involved this time.Ĭrocodile Music's track listing also shows that vocalists Ruth-Ann and Andru Donalds will feature on the album, providing vocals on a couple of the songs, including in the form of a duet (on Boum-Boum). Studios, Ibiza, Spain.Īll music and lyrics by Michael Cretu except track 2, 4 and 10 also by Jens GadĮnigma's management company Crocodile Music has published the track listing of the new album, along with the writing credits.
